General conclusion
The results of the analysis showed that the textbook entitled Spark 3 is to be used in teaching and learning process based on the criteria of textbook analysis by Cunningsworth. The points of strength outweigh the points of weakness. No textbook is likely to be ideal, so the aim is to find one that most nearly meets our requirements and then as teachers we should be prepared to adapt the material in the textbook in way to get a better match between materials and objectives. Conclusion The textbook is one of the main sources for teachers and learners and serves as a didactic aid and important teaching and learning material. This textbook evaluation included 55 statements that covered 7 categories: language and content, selection and grading of language items, presentation and practice of new language items, language skills and communicative abilities, supporting materials, motivation and overall evaluation. The statements were based on the criteria designed by Alan Cunningsworth. Spark 3 accomplish most of the criterias proposed by Cunningsworth. The textbook has interesting tasks which meet the objectives in curriculum 2013. Additionally there is a good distribution (simple to complex) of tasks accross modules and the whole book. This textbook have reflected seven characteristics of a good English textbook that are: the front pages that are cover page, copyright page, and table of contents the font is clear, not too small or too big the layout is interesting topics are interesting the vocabulary explanation and tasks the grammar explanation and tasks integrating language skills Spark 3 has also supporting materials such as: visual material, recorded material, examples of authentic language, a teacher’s book, a vocabulary list and CD. The textbook includes reasonable balance & range skills and activities. It motivates learners by pleasurable activities. It provide a variety of communicative activities. Although, there are some improvements that should be done by authors of the book. The improvements are: teaching pronunciation and grammar communicatively. The tests should be a combination of discrete items and communicative tests. It is important to be tested also the students’ ability to perform in a communicative situation. Finally, student’s book should include an index of grammar. However, the points of strength outweigh the points of weakness and in the future if I had to choose I will definitely choose Spark 3.
