The aim and tasks of the qualification paper. The aim of the research paper is to analyse Pride and Prejudice the most profound novel of Jane Austen and to show the place of women in the society at the end of 18th and early 19th century in England. To achieve the aim of the research, the following objectives are set up: To study Jane Austen’s literary career and analyze artistic qualities of her famous novel “Pride and Prejudice”. To identify women’s position in the society; To show limited opportunities in education, profession for those period women and other things, essential for women; To analyze women characters in the novel Pride and Prejudice; Object of the qualification paper. The remarkable novel “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen is the object of the qualification paper. Methods of investigation. Literary analysis, comparative analysis and characterization. Methodological basis of investigation. Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Education”, “National Program of Training Cadres” Decree “On Measures to Further Improvement of Foreign Languages Teaching System”, President Islam Karimov’s works on spirituality and enlightenment, scientific and theoretic literature related to the theme. Scientific novelty and practical value. There are a lot of pieces of scientific articles studying Pride and Prejudice. Some researchers study the relations between marriage and money. Some others center on the text from the linguistic viewpoints, such as speech act theory, semantics study etc. Other researchers also study the marriage patterns in the novel which were very typical as all of the people’s matrimonial value orientation are influenced by money. Nevertheless, less specialized study of Austen’s ideal man in Pride and Prejudice. On the basis of all the former research, this qualification work intends to address such problems: first, three features of Austen’s ideal man; second, as a reader, what lesson can be drawn from this novel? The results of qualification work can be used at the lectures and seminars devoted to Jane Austen’s literary activity and especially the analysis of her novel Pride and Prejudice.
