2023-yil 4-son. ISSN: 2992-9008. UDK: 37 170 questionnaires are given to students‘ teachers and school principals to gather information about students‘ school experiences in developing reading literacy. PURPOSE PIRLS is a carefully constructed reading assessment, consisting of a test of the reading literacy of fourth-grade students and questionnaires to collect information pertaining to fourth-grade students' reading literacy evaluation. PIRLS has four goals: develop internationally valid instruments for measuring reading literacy suitable for establishing internationally comparable literacy levels in each of the participating education systems; describe on international scale the literacy profiles of fourth-graders in school in each participating education system; and identify the home, school and societal factors associated with the literacy levels and reading habits of fourth-graders in schools. The goal of PIRLS is to provide the best policy-relevant information about how to improve teaching and learning and to help young students become accomplished and self-sufficient readers. PIRLS always has included school, teacher, and student questionnaires as well as the Learning to Read Survey completed by students‘ parents or caregivers. The PIRLS questionnaire results provide a wealth of information about the home, school, and classroom contexts in which students learn to read. As a qualitative companion to the quantitative reports produced to summarize the international achievement and questionnaire results, each PIRLS assessment has been accompanied by an encyclopedia comprising chapters written by each participating country or benchmarking entity describing its reading curriculum and instruction. The chapters are published together with the results of the PIRLS Curriculum Questionnaire completed by each participant to provide comparative information across countries. PIRLS assesses four broad-based comprehension processes within each of the two purposes for reading: focus on and retrieve explicitly stated information; and evaluated and critique content and textual elements. Also, PIRLS focuses on three aspects of reading literacy: purposes for reading; processes of comprehension; and student reading behaviors and attitudes. The first two aspects are measured through the PIRLS assessment components, which is administered to each participating student. The third dimension, reading behaviors and attitudes, is measured through a separate component of background questionnaires. The first aspect of the assessment component that is targeted by PIRLS is purposes of reading. The purposes of reading component encompasses the two main reasons why young students read printed materials: for literary experience and for the acquisition and use of information. To measure the |
