Types of fruits
Fruit is the sweet, fleshy, edible part of a plant. It generally contains seeds. Fruits are usually eaten raw, although some varieties can be cooked. They come in a wide variety of colours, shapes and flavours. Common types of fruits that are readily available include:
Apples and pears
Citrus-oranges, grape fruits, mandarine and limes.
Stone fruit – nectarines, apricots, peaches and plums.
Tropical and exotic – bananas and mangoes.
Berrries – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, kiwifruits and passion fruit.
Melons – watermelons, rock melons and honeydew melons. Often you must have read or heard that “ An apple a day keeps the doctor away. This is quite true as fruits play a very important role in our lives. Fruits are naturally sweet to test, low in calories, fat, sodium and cholesterol.
Watermelon - An excellent summer fruit to indulge on, fresh, very juicy and a rich source of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It is also incredibly hydrating as it contains about 92% water hence is naturally low in fat. Watermelon is rich potassium and helps to retain calcium in the body resulting in stronger bones and joints. Overall there are many fresh fruits contain high amounts of vitamins C.Hence making fruits a part of your daily diet would provide with the required nutrients to the body and keeps the body hydrated. Eating fruits improves blood circulation, improves digestive system, gives an amazing glow to the skin and shine to the hair and promotes the overall health. Fruit and vegetables should be an important part of your daily diet. They are naturally good and contain vitamins and minerals that can help protect against some diseases. You should eat at five serves of vegetables and two serves of fruit each day. Choose different colours and varieties.
