Build Your Child’s Brain … Through Massage
A study at McGill University in Montreal showed an unexpected
benefit from massage: higher intelligence. The researchers looked at
two groups of baby rats. Half had “touchy” mothers, who stroked
them a lot, and half had “reserved” moms, who gave little touch
affection.
As the rats grew, the cuddled animals were found to be extra
smart. This was because the learning center of their brains—which
is very similar to the child’s learning center—had formed healthier,
richer connections.
The moral of the story: Cuddling not only feels good and lowers
stress—it may even boost your child’s IQ!
