Topic 4
Different accents of English

Aunt, route, watch, apparel, envelope, tomato

The ability to pronounce words correctly is important for both speaking and listening, so this topic is helpful for students. Due to the English dialect, these words might be pronounced in two different ways. Accents are the subject of phonology. People from different geographical regions have different accents, which is only normal (McMahon, 2020).
Topic 5
Sort ‘n’ Spell
honorable, visible, predictable, enjoyable, fashionable, edible
Rule: When the root word looks like a whole word, add the suffix –able.
When the root word is not a full word, use the suffix –ible

According to Zeh (2017) students will create a spelling rule using their understanding of affixes.

Task: give the kids a list of words, and ask them to organize the words into groups based on how they are spelled. A pair of identical-sounding but differently spelt affixes should be used to separate the two groupings. To establish a rule for when to use each of the affixes, have the pupils evaluate the terms.
