The aim of teaching a foreign language is free communication. Free communication includes competent oral speech. Literate oral speech implies knowledge of grammar, i.e. grammatically correct design of oral-speech statements.
In the process of learning a foreign language, students acquire skills in all types of speech activity - listening, speaking, reading and writing. But mastering these types of speech activity is impossible without such an important aspect as grammar.
On the one hand , there is now a more objective approach to assessing the meaning and place of grammar in teaching a foreign language: now it is not a goal, but one of the important means of teaching a foreign language. On the other hand , students most of all do not like to study grammar in foreign language lessons, and there are great difficulties in studying it.
In this regard, we have identified the topic of the study "Methods of teaching grammar in English classes in the middle level of the basic school as a means of forming literate oral speech."
In accordance with the topic, we set the purpose of the study.
The purpose of the study is to practically substantiate the dependence of literate oral speech on the formation of grammatical skills in middle-level students of a general education school.
The object of the research is the process of teaching English in the middle level.
The subject of the research is the grammar of the English language as a means of forming literate oral speech.
Hypothesis - if you form grammatical skills with the active use of stamps, speech patterns, through a system of exercises, then the formation of literate oral speech will be more effective.
In connection with the above, we have set the following tasks :
1. Reveal the essence of the process of teaching English in the middle level.
2. To systematize the methods of formation of grammatical skills of middle school students.
3. Determine the characteristic features of the speech activity of middle school students.
4. Develop a system of lessons aimed at the formation of grammatical skills
5. Create guidelines for the formation of competent oral speech.
The methodological basis of our study was the work of the following authors:
- such scientists as Zimnyaya I.A., Leontiev A.N., Elkonin D.B., Davydov V.V., S.L. Rubinshtein and others were engaged in the psychological characteristics of middle-level students.
- the theory and methods of teaching a foreign language were studied by such scientists as Passov E.I., Rogova G.V., S.G. Ter-Minasova, Shatilov S.F., Bim I.L., Kitaigorodskaya G.A. and etc.
- a personality-oriented approach to learning was considered by Bim I.L., Bondarevskaya et al.
The whole process of working on the research problem took place in 3 stages:
Stage I - from 01.01.06 to 12.31.06.
Within the framework of this stage, the scientific literature on the problem under study was analyzed, a research plan was developed, and the methodological basis of the research was determined.
· Stage II – from 13.01.07 to 19.02.07.
At this stage, work was carried out on the practical part: the selection of exercises for the development of grammatical skills, their implementation in practice, the use of best practices of foreign language teachers, the systematization of this experience, the development of a series of lessons
Stage III – from 19.02.07 to 20.04.07.
During this period, the systematization and analysis of the results of the study was carried out, and the research work was formalized.
Base of the study: The study was conducted on the basis of the MOU "Secondary School No. 9" in Orenburg.
