a. Summarise what is meant by the term 'English syntax'
b. Describe the four types of sentence structures


Amplification:

Tip: It’s not necessary to give an example but it will definitely make your answer much stronger if you do!


'English syntax' is the usage of words in order in the sentence or the proper structure of the sentence that helps the listener easily understand the utterance.
There are 4 types of sentences:
Simple sentence consists of one independent clause and carries one complete idea. It is structures as following: Subject + Verb + Object

For example: I love my mother.




Compound sentence consists of simple sentences or two independent clauses. Two sentenced are linked to each other with conjunctions like FANBOYS.

For example: I love my mother, so I give her flowers every day.


In Complex sentence one independent and dependent clauses are joined with the help of linking words like: although, nevertheless, moreover, however and many more others.




For example: I buy flowers everyday , because I love my mother.


Compound-complex sentence consists of two independent and one dependent or two dependent and one independent clauses that are joined with help of linking words .
For example: I love my mother, so I buy her flowers every day and enjoy looking at her glowing eyes.
