West Kazakhstan is the birthplace of brave and patient poet-stormy pearl Makhambet. His whole life was a cloudless childhood and youth. His whole life "began with joy and ended with failure" was spent on this land - on the shores of Edil and Yoik, on the sands of Norin, Beketay and Taisoigan.
For us and future generations, these sand hills, these "sandstone lakes and waters", these delicate willows, even the solitary sycamore, the solitary bush, these eternally sleeping stones are the sacred heritage of the Mahambet period. .
Until the Kazakh people "could not live independently" (A. Baytursinov), the land between Edil and Yoik was owned by foreigners since Abulkhairkhan accepted Russian citizenship in 1731-1801. Only in 1801, the White Tsar of Russia allowed Bokei to use the Samara steppe. In the decree of Tsar Pavel I, it is said: "As I accept Sultan Bokey Nuralikhanuli, who heads the Council of the Khan of the Small Horde, as our citizen, I will allow him to roam the whole earth; as a token of approval I present him with a gold medal with my portrait.
At first, all these events happening around the khan seemed suitable to Isotai and Makhambet. At that time they were the Elders of the two districts. However, over time, the capricious and selfish Jangir began to show unprecedented illegal behavior. Makhambet, a brave poet with a delicate heart, was the spirit of rebellion and was the first to call Isatay to the path of decisive armed struggle.
"The most serious violation was that this land was given by the tsar to the Kazakh people and was considered his property by Jangir. He created an idea according to which the common people's land was the property of the khan. In 1836, he declared 400,000 hectares of land to the Kazakh people as the khan's share. He divided the rest of the land among his relatives and tore it up. He began to seize land from tribes and villages he did not like. (Q. Dosmuhamedov)
As a result, "in the noisy spring of 1836, the anger of the people against the khans and bosses; turned into a general revolt against the Tores and the Tulenites, against their patron king. The people stamped Isotai on a horse with their own hands and planted a flag with horsehair on the top of a high hill. A bloody struggle began against the tsar's troops and the khan's army, which lasted for a year and a half. (B. Amanshin).
