  • Nafosat: Oh it is really cool. How would you handle a student you found difficult to teach?
  • Teacher: For me, the first step would be to pull them aside and talk about the issue privately. My main questions would get at the root cause of this students behavior. Once I know that, I try to come up with a solution. I used this strategy in my last classroom, where I had a student who couldn’t seem to stay in his seat during lessons and I found out that sitting still too long made him feel confined and nervous. We talked about how his behavior affected the rest of the class, and we agreed that when he was feeling really anxious he could raise his hand and I’d let him take a lap around the classroom, but only when it was appropriate.
  • Nafosat: Wow it is really new method for me. How do you like to communicate and build relationships with parents?
  • Teacher: I think it is really important to get to know the important family members in each student’s life. This is why at the beginning of the school year I like to have individual meetings with each student’s family.
  • Nafosat: Oh I see… And my last question is everyone has difficult situation in his job, because nothing is easy right?

    • Teacher: Yeah of course, sometimes I feel really tired. Not of my job but of so many problems or documents which we should complete every day.
    • Nafosat: So, tell me about a time when you handle misunderstandings in your class.
    • Teacher: Ooh, this kind of situations we faced almost every day. I have 5 rules in these situations:
    • Ask for permission to discuss the situation
    • Ask questions and really listen to the answers
    • Find the source of the misunderstanding and correct it
    • Check the understanding has been reached and the emotions dealt with
    • Confirm that this understanding is now in place and move forward
