Reflection

While I looked through Folse and Morleys’ books, they seemed to mу not enough information and examples to explain my pre-intermediate learners, so I tried to search some examples, their frequency, their usage in various sections like TV/Movie, spoken, academic,

fiction and related parts of speech. Because of my viewpoint and educational background, I believe that students learn more effectively when they use authentic resources from dependable sources like The Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA), VersaText, Academic Phrsaebank and so on. “ One of the primary advantages of using copora in the language classroom is the vast source of language data which learners can access to determine how language is used by real people in real target language situation” ( Green,B.A,2018) There are several following steps of using COCA: first, L2 learners should enter https://www.english-corpora.org/coca/Links to an external site. through Google Chrome, after registration having done they can automatically work with words. Secondly they can write any word which we need with appropriate parts of speech and needed section like academic, spoken and other. Next they should press ‘Finding matching strings’, then it demonstrates the frequency of words. After that, they choose any phrases which are commonly used in selected section. At last, they can get acquainted with plethora of sentences. . As proof of my COCA research, I have given the screenshots of the corpus in the lists . I have chosen some of the sentences depending on the proficiency of my students and these will aid my learners to decrease their grammar mistake in the next upcoming classes. As Green, B.A.(2018) states Corpus-based pedagogy aids the L2 learners to understand and work these sometimes using meaning comparisons in the structure of language(p.3).To sum up, by utilizing this interactive method, I believe that student will be able to use this tool in or out of the classroom independently to learn more about their vocabulary acquisition and enrich their formal and informal language learning.
