Ulbos Sin'lim 🥰🥰🥰🥰: Lake Baikal is the deepest and one of the biggest and most ancient lakes of the world. It is situated almost in the centre of Asia. Lake Baikal is a gigantic bowl set 445 meter above sea level. This grand, enormous, unusual and charming miracle of nature is located in the south of Eastern Siberia, in the Buryat Autonomous Republic and region of Irkutsk, Russia. The widest point of the lake is 79.4 km. 8. The lake covers 31,500 sq.km. It is 636 km long and an average of 48 km wide. The widest point of the lake is 79.4 km. The average depth of Lake Baikal is 730 m., and its maximum depth in the middle is 1,620 m. It would take about one year for all the rivers of the world to fill Baikal’s basin, and would take four hundred years for all the rivers, streams and brooks now flowing into Siberian lake-sea to do the same. 11. There are hot springs in the surrounding area of Lake Baikal. The quality of the water of these springs is excellent. The lake acts as a powerful generator and bio filter producing this water. 3 Lake Baikal The Baikal has many beautiful places. One of them is the island Olkhon. It is the biggest of about 30 islands in Lake Baikal. The Olympic Flame has been lit in the Baikal as a part of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay. 4 Lake Baikal Over 300 rivers flow into the lake but only the Angara-river runs out of it. There is a tale about an old man Baikal and his beautiful daughter Angara. 5 Lake Baikal The freshwater seal known as the nerpa, is endemic to Lake Baikal. It is also the only mammal which inhabits the lake. It is a mystery how they came to settle in the Baikal. The world-famous sable of the Barguzin region, distinguished for its dark and beautiful pelt, is the pride of the forest and endemic to the Baikal. In 1916 Tsar Nicholas II created the Barguzin Preserve for the protection of the sable. 6 Lake Baikal Golomyanka or Baikal oil fish is the most unique fish in the world. It gives birth to live young. The fish normally lives in depth of 200 – 500 m. It is so transparent that you can read a newspaper through it. Epischura, being the dominant zooplankton species there is endemic to Lake Baikal. It is the tiny epischura (no bigger than a poppyseed) that keeps Lake Baikal clean. It sucks tiny scraps of food out of the lake. 7 Lake Baikal Omul, the delicate fish, has always been a favourite with Siberians. It is caught, smoked and then sold widely in markets around the lake. He said: “Lake Baikal is wonderful and it’s not for nothing that the Siberian call it the sea, not lake. Its water is exclusively transparent, so that one can see through it as trough the air. Its co lour is light blue to please the eye”. 5 So how is the lake’s name originated? Who named it Baikal? In the Middle Ages in the Mongolian language people called it “Tengiz”, then before the Russians came Baikal was called “Baigal-dalai” or “Baigal-Muran” (dalai means sea, muran means river in the Mongolian language) or “standing fire” (Baikal- the reflection of heaven). 6 There are 852 species, 233 kinds of seaweeds, more than 1550 kinds of animals, 50 species of fish, nearly 600 species of plants, and 300 species of birds. 7 Do you know about the famous Baikal fish. Its body is transparent and in light you can see its skeleton. The golomyanka’s body consists of 3% of fat. It has beautiful fur and its fat has medicinal qualities.Its meat is just like chicken, the uncooked liver is rich in vitamins and they say it’s the most valuable product. The seal lives in the north and in the middle part of Baikal. 11 The taiga expanses surrounding Lake Baikal are famous for fur-bearing animals, such as squirrels, sables, stoats, minks, foxes, hares and others. In the taiga in the vicinity of Baikal you can meet bears, the lynx and the Siberian reindeer. 12 Barguzin sables have always been considered the greatest wealth of the lake Baikal area. They are beautiful and strong, especially near the lake and in places where it is colder.
