Optional Activity 2b Play “On Monday we play …”.

Objectives: to consolidate the days of the week and the preposition‘on’

Ask the pupils to play usual Chain Drill. You can also play theDVD and have the pupils do the activity similarly.



e.g. Pupil 1: On Monday we play football.

Pupil 2: On Tuesday we play basketball.

Pupil 3: On Wednesday … etc.
Activity 3 Write the letters.

Objective: to learn two letters of the alphabet – Qq and Rr

Ask the pupils to look at the letter “Qq” and say what picturesare next to the letter (Queen and question). Play the DVD andask the pupils to listen and repeat the letter and the correspondingpicture. Also draw their attention to the way the letters arewritten. Then ask the pupils to open their Workbooks and start

writing the capital letter “Q” and then small “q”.

Ask them to look at the example and follow the arrows. Ifnecessary, demonstrate on the blackboard. Then repeat the procedurewith the letter “Rr”.



Note: 1. If some pupils are very slow at writing, don’t worry.Ask them to continue writing at home. The main point is to learnhow to write and how to pronounce the letter.

2. After the pupils have practised writing the letters for sometime you can work on the pronunciation of the letters “Q” and“R” as follows:



STEP 1: Write the words “queen” and “question” and thesound [] under or over the letter combinations “qu” on theleft side of the blackboard. Then say that the letter combinations“qu” is always pronounced as [] at the beginning of words. Afterthat have the pupils repeat this sound and the words on theblackboard after you individually, in rows and chorus.

STEP 2: When you finish with Step 1, write the words “rooster”,“robot”, “ruler” and “frog” and the sound [] under or overthe letter “r” on the right side of the blackboard. Then say thatthe letter “R” is always pronounced as [] at the beginning ofwords and right after consonants. However they are not pronounced

at the end of words as in the words “rooster”, “ruler”and “car”. After that have the pupils repeat this sound and thewords on the blackboard after you individually, in rows and chorus.



Suggestion: Go on making pronunciation posters as you did

during the previous lessons. In this lesson you can make completeposters for the sounds [] and [] of the letter combination “qu”and the letter “r”.

3. Then draw the pupils’ attention to an optional activity onpage 22. Ask the pupils to read the sentences and then colour thepictures.
