Ask the pupils to look at the letter “Oo” and say what picturesare next to the letter (orange and open door with a sign
“Open”). Play the DVD and ask the pupils to listen and repeat theletter and the corresponding picture. Also draw their attentionto the way the letters are written. Then ask the pupils to opentheir Workbooks and start writing the capital letter “O” and thensmall “o”.
Ask them to look at the example and follow the arrows. Ifnecessary, demonstrate on the blackboard. Then repeat the procedurewith the letter “Pp”.
Note: 1. If some pupils are very slow at writing don’t worry.Ask them to continue writing at home. The main point is to learnhow to write and how to pronounce the letter.
2. After the pupils have practised writing the letters for sometime you can work on the pronunciation of the letters “O” and“P” as follows:
STEP 1: Write the word “orange” and the sound [] under orover the letter “o” on the left side of the blackboard. Then writethe word “open” and the sound [] under or over the letter “o”on the right side of the blackboard. Then say that the letter “o”also gives more than one sound, for example, the letter “o” in thewords on the left side of the blackboard is pronounced as [] butin the words on the right side of the blackboard it is pronouncedas []. After that have the pupils repeat these sounds after youindividually, in rows and chorus.
STEP 2: When you finish with Step 1, write the words “plane”,“parrot”, “pumpkin” and “peach” and the sound [] under orover the letter “p” on the blackboard. Then say that unlike “A”,“C”, “E”, “G”, “I” and “O”, the letter “P” is always pronouncedas [] and it does not give more than one sound. After that havethe pupils repeat this sound after you individually, in rows andchorus.
Suggestion: Go on making pronunciation posters as you didduring the previous lessons. In this lesson you can make an unfinishedposter for the sounds ([] and []) of the letter “O” anda complete one for the letter “P”.
