Activity 3 Write the letters.
Objectives: to learn two more letters of the alphabet – Ss and Tt; to practice writing the letters; to consolidate the letters. Ask the pupils to look at the letter “Ss” and say what pictures are next to the letter (spring, summer, six, seven). Play the DVD and ask the pupils to listen and repeat the letter and the corresponding pictures. Also draw their attention to the way the letters are written. Then ask the pupils to open their Workbooks and start writing the capital letter “S” and then small “s”. Ask them to look at the example and follow the arrows. If necessary, demonstrate on the blackboard. Then repeat the procedure with the letter “Tt”. Note: 1. If some pupils are very slow at writing, don’t worry. Ask them to continue writing at home. The main point is to learn how to write and how to pronounce the letter. 2. After the pupils have practised writing the letters for some time you can work on the pronunciation of the letters “S” and “T” as follows: STEP 1: Write the words “spring”, “summer”, “six” and “seven” and the sound [] under or over the letter “s” on the left side of the blackboard. Then write the words “pens”, “season”, “is” and “plays” and the sound [z] under or over the letter “s” on the right side of the blackboard. Then say that the letter “s” is always pronounced as [s] at the beginning of words and before or after voiceless consonants. After that have the pupils repeat this sound and the words on the blackboard after you individually, in rows and chorus. After that give more explanation that the letter “s” is most often pronounced as [z] between two vowels, before or after voiced consonants and after vowels as well. Then have the pupils repeat this sound and the words on the blackboard after you individually, in rows and chorus. STEP 2: When you finish with Step 1, write the words “Teddy”, “train”, and “tiger” and the sound [] under or over the letter “t” on the left side of the blackboard. Write the words “the”, “this”, “that”, “father”, “mother” and “brother” and the sound [] under or over the letter combinations “th” on the right side of the blackboard. Also write the words “thanks” and “three” and the sound [] under or over the letter combination “th”. Then say that the letter “T” is always pronounced as [] except in the letter combination “th”. After that have the pupils repeat this sound and the words on the blackboard after you individually, in rows and chorus. Then provide the pupils with more explanation that the letter combination “th” sometimes is pronounced as [] and sometimes as [] like in the examples on the right side of the blackboard. After that have the pupils repeat these sounds and the words on the blackboard after you individually, in rows and chorus. 3. Then draw the pupils’ attention to an optional activity on page 24. Explain that they should look at the pictures and write the words under the pictures. Say that the words are given below. Ask the pupils to repeat after you the words in chorus, in rows, in pairs and individually. Download 238.77 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
