Brief information about my hometown Khorezm.

Khwarazm (/xwəˈræzəm/; Old Persian: Hwârazmiya; Persian: خوارزم, Xwârazm or Xârazm) or Chorasmia (/kəˈræzmiə/) is a large oasis region on the Amu Darya river delta in western Central Asia, bordered on the north by the (former) Aral Sea, on the east by the Kyzylkum Desert, on the south by the Karakum Desert, and on the west by the Ustyurt Plateau. It was the center of the Iranian[1] Khwarezmian civilization, and a series of kingdoms such as the Afrighid dynasty and the Anushtegin dynasty, whose capitals were (among others) Kath, Gurganj (now Konye-Urgench) and – from the 16th century on – Khiva. Today Khwarazm belongs partly to Uzbekistan and partly to Turkmenistan.

The nature of Khorezm

• The climate is sharply continental, with moderately cold winters and dry hot summers. The region is located in the desert zone, in the western part of the Khorezm oasis, at an average altitude of 100 m. The terrain consists of a lowland. It is a part of the ancient delta of Amudarya and consists of river deposits. The western and southwestern parts adjacent to the Karakum desert are covered with sand. Minerals include limestone, sand, clay and other building materials. The winter is moderately cold, there is little snow, the average temperature in January is -5°, the lowest temperature is -32°. Summer is hot and dry, the average temperature in July is 30°, the highest temperature is 47°. The vegetation period is 200-210 days. Annual rainfall is 78-79 mm, mainly in March-April. North and northeast winds blow. The only river, Amudarya, flows through a wide valley in the territory of the region, its banks are low, so it is prone to flooding. Dams have been built against floods. Amudarya water is used to irrigate crops on the land of large canals. In the south of the region, there are many small salt lakes, swamps and marshes. The soil is composed of alluvial deposits of Amudarya. In the valley of the river there are meadow and meadow-swamp soils, and in the west, sand dunes.
