1. What is drilling? What are its types? What language skills or subskills are 
practiced with drills? Provide examples for each type. (100-150 words).  
It means listening to a model with a teacher or student, and repeating what is 
heard . This is a reputation drill , a technique which is used by majority of 
teachers when introducing a new subject . There are variety of types of 
drilling such as substitution, question or answer . Moreover it can be used to 
practice different structures or vocabulary items . For may consist of one 
word or word words . For example Teacher : I go to university He ?
Response : He goes to work . In question and answer drills prompt I s a 
question and the response to the answer .
The table below may be used as a guide in the selection of the most 
appropriate drilling method. 


The language skills of speaking, listening, writing and reading are often 
divided into sub-skills, which are specific behaviours that language users do 
in order to be effective in each of the skills. 


being able to know contracted forms in connected speech. 

In the classroom 
Learners take their time developing a variety types of sub-skills as they 
build each of the four skills. Amongst the sub-skills focussed on
