Task 1. Write answers to the following questions.

  1. What is drilling? What are its types? What language skills or subskills are practiced with drills? Provide examples for each type. (100-150 words).

Answer:
Drilling is a teaching technique that consist of repitition of oral pattern and structures. Drilling means listening to a model provided by the teacher .or a tape to another student and he /she should repeat which he / she heard. Drilling types include repitition or imitation drill,substitution drill,questions and answers drill,transformation drill and chorus drill.drilling is really useful to learn high vocabulary. In repitition drill ,teacher should say word and student should repeat it which she heard. In Substitution drill ,teacher should say one sentence, learners should answer yes or no such kind of short answers. In question and answers drill learners should ask questions with each others. In transformation drill,teachers should say affirmative sentence, learners should transform this sentence into negative sentences. Chorus drill means getting learners to repeat words,expression,sentence to help them remember and develop more accurate pronunciation.

  1. What is an authentic activity? Why is it important? How can teachers make classroom activities authentic? (100-150 words).

. Answer:
Authentic activity, comprise complex task to be investigated.
. by students over a sustained period of time activities are completed in days ,weeks and months rather than minutes or hours .they require significant investment of time and intellectual resources. Authentic activity is really helpful for students and learners. It helps them to be more independent and keep self confidence.
Task 2. Read the following challenges of language teachers. Write your opinions to help them improve their lessons. Justify your comments. (minimum 100 words for each).

  1. It is very difficult to bring interaction and acquisition into my classes – I have more than 30 students in each class and very few resources”

(What can the teacher do to use more interactive activities in these classes? What type of pair work or group work activities do you recommend? How can she improve the language acquisition of students with few resources?)
Answers:
I think so,it is really difficult to study 30 students, they are really plenty, so I can advise that teachers should divide small groups, in that cases it is much more easier.for example, teachers should give handout to their students.if it is impossible,the most useful way to increase learners knowledge to use of technology.For examples, watching TV ,mainly cartoon ,is helpful and interesting for little learning, for teenagers listening or reading activities are useful, or to organise speaking club.

  1. I am teaching General English in the language center. I think learning by heart the words is an old-fashioned way of teaching vocabulary. I don’t know how to teach new words each lesson using different techniques)

Answers:
It is right to learn by heart new words is old-fashioned way of teaching vocabulary. In my opinion, teacher may use of high technology, for example watching cartoon ,films and some videos which is related to the new topic.in other way to organise different activity. For example, to tell definition and learners should find what is it.
3.(Recommend some techniques for vocabulary teaching with examples. Write the names of websites where the teacher can find resources for lessons)
Answers: Realistically, I use of much more websites for organizing interesting activity for pupils .I can advise this websites without hesitation .www.vocabulary.com.,www.eapfoundation.com,breaking news English.
Task 3. Explain the roles of an EFL teacher in a specific teaching situation. Write short answers.

  • Class of 15 primary school children who are energetic and loud.

  • Group of adult learners with various professions whose age is above 40.

  • Group of learners with memory problems.

Answer
1In this situation .EFL teacher should be more active than children, because in that cases, children have no time for being loud in classroom. EFL teachers roles in the classroom such as controller, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, resource, tutor, observer, and as teaching aid. These roles can help the EFL teacher does his work as well as help the EFL learners to learn the English language.When it comes to primary pupils EFL teacher should be polite and lover children.
2. For group of adults who has own profession .Such kind of learners have own aim to learn foreign language. So, In this class EFL teacher's role to teach subject seriously and more practical connecting to proffessions which enrich their work experience too . In this situation teacher's role is more instructor and full of recource owner because these students have enough experience in life .
3. In this situation , teacher's role much more significiant because it is the most challenging situation to work with memory of problems . Teacher should be more tolerant and hard working to work with students due to their memory . Teacher is more organizer in this occasion because teacher should find a lot of interesting ways to make lesson memorable and repititive .
