Members of the Camisea consortium suppose that the fierce opposition to the project has led to the project's feasibility being questioned. Although the project benefits the Camisea region and Peru as a whole, many see it as an exploitative profit pursuit.

Various groups have come together to protest the Camisea project. Indigenous peoples perceive the project as a threat to their way of life and nature which is surrounded them. This has been brought to the attention of the international media by well-organized protest groups that are also concerned with environmental issues.
Peruvian government
Although many people in Peru oppose Camisea, the government supports the project. Benefits identified by many groups include:
