Childhood

  • H.C. Andersen growed up in Odense. He lived in a very small house that still is in Odense today, so people from all over the world can come and visit it. As 6 years old he came in a school for poor people. And later he came to a special school for jewish children. Hes father want him to dance ballet but he was horrible at it. So he went to Copenhagen, to follow his dream.



Family

  • Father: Hans Andersen (1782-1816)

  • H.C. Andersens father, was born in 1782 in Rørup. He was small and blond boy with a round face and was about 165 cm. tall. He was a nice and clever human, who readed books and the locale newspaper. He didn’t think that H.C.A had to do something he didn’t want to do. Hans Andersen was against alcohol and gambling. He was a soldier and died in an age as 33.

  • Mother: Anne Marie Andersdatter (1774-1833)

  • She was a beautiful woman, who was dressed as a farmer and allways had a hat on. She had big, brown eyes and was born in the peroid 1773-1775 in bogense, Fyn. At the census in 1787 did the 13-14 years old girl got registrated for the first time as a house keeper to a man called Rasmus Ibsens in Gråbrødrestræde.



Copenhagen

  • The 4th September 1819 traveled Hans Christian Andersen to Copenhagen. When he came he had big thought of him self. So he walk into a theatre. He wood sing and dance, but he was not good. After that he tried to whrite fairy tales and poems. Later in his life his been famous all over the world. 



Trips

  • H.C. Andersen has been in 29 different trips abroad all over the world, and some of them lasted for several months. He started to travel as 25 years old and stopped when he was 68 years old. He was very desperate to write everything down that happened in his life. That’s why we have such a great inside of his life. The purpose with all the traveling, was efforts to development and maturity there are out there among people said H.C. Andersen. “To travel is not only for fun or love, but also to learn”.
