The first graph illustrates the proportion of families holding electrical devices, while the second one gives data on the weekly number of hours households spent while engaging with housework in particular area from 1920 to 2019.
Overall, the percentage of households owning electrical appliances rose in all three categories, while working time of families at home decreased dramatically over the period given.
With regards to the first chart, the proportion of households with refrigerator began at 0% in 1920 and then increased dramatically to 100% by 1980. This figure remained unchanged in the following years. Similarly, vacuum cleaner owners started at 30% in the first year and then rose sharply to the highest rate by 2000, after which the rate remained constant for the next 19 years. Moreover, the percentage in ownership of washing machine stood at 40% in 1920 and fluctuated over the period, after which it peaked at about 75% in 2019.
Taking a closer look at the remaining graph, we can observe that the total number of hours per week that people spent doing housework started at 50 hours in 1920 and then plummeted to 20 hours over the next four decades. This figure decreased steadily to just over 10 hours in the subsequent years.
