STAGES OF PRODUCTION 1

INTRODUCTION

Pre-production, production, and post-production are the three main stages of the process. The three stages will be explained in detail in this unit. We'll also go over the first stage, which is pre-production, in depth.

Concept of stages of production

Television production is a time-consuming and complex process that necessitates the collaboration of a large number of people. Executing those plans necessitates extensive planning as well as a wide range of skills, time, and effort. Any television production's goal is to turn an idea into a meaningful programme. Each type of television production has its own set of creative inputs, technical and personnel requirements, coordination, and financial requirements. Regardless of the format or genre, planning is the pivot on which the production's success is built. We must prepare ourselves for the various stages of production once the decision to make a television programme has been made. The procedures outlined in this unit will guide you through the entire process of developing an idea to finalising a programme.
Until recently, television production necessitated the collaboration of dozens of highly trained professionals, as well as the use of prohibitively expensive and difficult-to-maintain equipment. Network-level TV shows still require a lot of hands to put together, but technological advancements have made it possible for anyone with a camcorder and a blank cassette to make a video.
Regardless of the budget or target audience for a programme, all professional productions go through the same three stages. Pre-production, production, and post-production are the three stages.
Phase one of the production
"The most important phase of production is pre-production," says a TV production adage. The basic ideas and approaches of the production are developed and set in motion during pre-production. This is where the production can either be put on the right track or get so messed up that no amount of time, talent, or editing expertise can save it. Not only are key talent and production members chosen during pre-production, but all of the major elements are also planned. The research has been completed, the script has been prepared, and the shooting locations have been chosen. Because scenic design, lighting, and audio are all interconnected, a series of production meetings must be held to ensure that everything is in order.
The Phase of Production
Everything comes together in a sort of final performance during the production phase. It is the stage in which the actual shooting (recording or live broadcast) takes place, and all of the pre-production plans are put into action.
Finally, there's the post-production phase.
The rushes are refined and edited into a complete programme and made ready for telecasting and distribution at this stage. Promotional activities are included in the post-production process for projects such as films, music albums, and television shows that require them.
The flow chart below depicts the various stages of production as well as how to implement them:
