Answer the following questions


1. What is the subject matter of the theory of translation?


The general theory of translation has a clearly defined subject matter; the process of translating in its entirely, including its results with due regard for all the factors affecting it.
2. What are the main directions in the history of translation?
First, the word "translation" was derived from a Latin phrase that means "to bring or carry across." Second, another explaining phrase is "metaphrasis," which was derived from Ancient Greek, meaning "to speak across." Finally, from the word metaphrasis, the word metaphrase was derived to mean "word for word translation
3. What are the main features of the nature of translation?
Translation is an interpretative process. The nature of translation depends upon the nature of the document. Translation of a technical or promotional document is easier and requires less skill and expertise than the translation of a text of literature.
4. What stages of communicative act can be defined?
The development of communicative functions has been described by Bates as occurring in a sequence of three stages: perlocutionary, illocutionary, and locutionary.
5. What linguistic and extra-linguistic aspects of translation do you know?
Specifically, extralinguistic knowledge seems to precede linguistic knowledge in its contribution to translation: it makes it possible for a translator to infer meaning at cognitive levels, leading to in-depth comprehension and thus successful translation.
6. What meaning is important in translation, dictionary or contextual? Why?
The context influences the meaning of a phrase or sentence. It is linked to the environment in which the communication takes place. In translation, the context is very important: one word may mean a different thing depending the context in which it is used. To translate you need to understand the text.
7. What is the main difference between translation and interpretation? Which of them is usually made at a higher level of accuracy?
On a general level, the difference between interpretation and translation is that interpretation deals with spoken language in real time while translation focuses on written content.
