Beatrice Catanzaro practice focuses 

on activating public participation 

and situations of mutual learn-

ing. She has been researching and 

producing works throughout Europe, 

Middle East and India. Her work 

has been exhibited in international 

venues as Manifesta7 (at the MART, 

Rovereto), Fundação Gulbenkian in 

Lisbon and the Espai d’Art Contem-

porani de Castelló (EACC) in Spain. 

In 2010 she moved to Palestine, where 

she currently teaches at the Inter-

national Art Academy of Palestine 

(Ramallah) and where she initiated a 

long-term community project, Bait al 

Karama (www.baitalkarama.org). She 

is currently PhD research candidate 

at the Oxford Brookes University, 

Oxford, UK.

GAP - Global Art Programme, Waiting for Expo 2015 è un programma interna-

zionale di scambio culturale tra l’Italia e altri paesi partecipanti all’Expo Milano 

2015 - Nutrire il Pianeta, Energia per la Vita. Iniziato nel 2010, il programma 

ha offerto ad artisti italiani e stranieri l’opportunità di compiere un’esperienza 

di residenza di due mesi in un paese ospitante allo scopo di realizzare un’opera 

sui temi inerenti l’Expo (salute e nutrizione adeguata, ambiente ed energia 

sostenibile, geo-architettura). Ogni anno gli artisti stranieri selezionati hanno 

soggiornato a Milano nella residenza Open Care, gestita da FARE, mentre gli 

italiani hanno svolto il loro periodo di residenza nei paesi stranieri che di volta in 

volta sono stati individuati come partner annuali del programma. Ogni singola 

residenza è terminata con una mostra di presentazione del lavoro dell’artista e 

la pubblicazione di un diario che ha raccolto le sue impressioni e il suo vissuto. 

Il programma si conclude con la mostra di tutte le opere prodotte dagli artisti 

partecipanti, all’interno della programmazione culturale di Expo Milano 2015.

GAP - Global Art Programme, Waiting for Expo 2015 is an international pro-

gramme of cultural exchange between Italy and other countries participating 

in the Expo Milano 2015 - Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. Started in 2010, 

the programme offered to Italian and foreign artists the opportunity to live 

a residence period of two month in a host country in order to create a work 

on issues related to the Expo (health and proper nutrition, environment and 

sustainable energy, geo-architecture). Every year foreign artists were selected 

to stay in Milan at the residence Open Care, managed by FARE, while the Ital-

ians pass their period of residence in foreign countries identified from time to 

time as annual partners of the programme. Every single residence ended with 

an exhibition presenting the work of the artist selected and the publication of 

a book that collects his impressions and his experience. The programme ends 

with an exhibition of all the works produced by participants.
