26.What part of speech belongs to class of functional words?
The class of functional words includes parts of speech that are essential to the grammatical structure and function of a sentence. These include: 1. Articles (a, an, the).2. Pronouns (he, she, it, they, etc.).3. Prepositions (in, on, at, with, etc.).4. Conjunctions (and, but, or). 5. Interjections (oh, ah, wow). These parts of speech help to establish relationships between words, convey the grammatical role of a word in a sentence, and communicate information about time, location, direction, and other important concepts. Unlike other parts of speech, functional words are considered grammatical rather than content words, as they do not have a specific lexical meaning on their own.
14.What are the main parts of speech?
The main parts of speech are as follows: 1. Noun - A word that names a person, place, thing, or idea. Examples: dog, Elizabeth, love, happiness. 2. Pronoun - A word that replaces a noun or noun phrase. Examples: he, she, it, they, this, that. 3. Adjective - A word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun. Examples: large, blue, beautiful, happy. 4. Verb - A word that expresses an action, occurrence, or state of being. Examples: run, walk, eat, sleep. 5. Adverb - A word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. Examples: quickly, slowly, very, too. 6. Preposition - A word that shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence. Examples: in, on, at, over. 7. Conjunction - A word that connects words, phrases, or clauses in a sentence. Examples: and, or, but, because. 8. Interjection - A word or phrase used to express strong emotion or surprise. Examples: wow, oh, hey, ouch. These parts of speech help us to form sentences, convey meaning, and communicate effectively in spoken and written language.
18.Is syntax the same as grammar?
Syntax and grammar are related concepts but they are not the same. Grammar refers to the set of rules and principles that govern the structure and use of language. It includes all the components of language, such as morphology, phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Grammar guides us in creating sentences that are correct, meaningful, and appropriate to a given context. Syntax, on the other hand, is a specific branch of grammar that deals with the arrangement of words and phrases to form correct sentences. It focuses on the rules that determine how words are combined to create structure in sentences. Syntax is concerned with word order, sentence structure, phrase structure, and the role of punctuation in forming grammatically correct sentences. Therefore, we can say that syntax is a part of grammar as a whole, and it is one of the essential aspects of grammar. While grammar is a broad concept that encompasses various aspects of language, syntax is only one of them and refers specifically to the structure and arrangement of words within sentences.
