us: “Latin American literature does not exist. It is a false and dangerous concept. Latin American
literature represents various diverse countries,
cultures, and peoples. There is a big difference be-
tween Mexican and Brazilian, between Argentine and Peruvian.
“It is very dangerous
to label books in this manner, because then they are destined to belong to a
‘ghetto.’ If a Greek or Swedish author is published, they don’t designate it European literature. This
is a colonialist attitude.
