INTRODUCTION (dissertation abstract of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD))
The purpose of the research is to reveal the features of the political, socio-
economic and cultural processes that took place in the Fergana Valley in the V–X
centuries.
The research objectives are the followings:
to highlight the political situation and administrative
and territorial structure
of Fergana during the reign of the Ephtalites and the Turkic Kaganate;
to study the political history of Fergana in the
reign of the Arab Caliphate;
to reveal the geopolitical significance of Fergana as part of the Samanid state;
to observe the weakening and decay of the central power in the Samanid state
in connection with the
political events in Fergana, and to show that this process
ultimately led to its cessation;
to trace the general tendencies of the socio-economic development of Fergana
in the V–X centuries;
to characterize the cultural life of Fergana during the
period under study;
to develop proposals and recommendations based on the results obtained
during the study of political, socio-economic and cultural processes in Fergana in
the V–X centuries.
