GOING OUT¹
Mr and Mrs Wilson were at home last Saturday afternoon. Mr Wilson is a lecturerat Edinburgh University. He teaches Russian literature. Mr Wilson and his wife are fond of Russian literature and art.
They were about to have dinner when the phone rang. Mrs Wilson answered the call. It was Mr Petrov, a teacher of Russian from Moscow. Mr Petrov came to Scotland about a year ago at the invitation of Edinburgh University. He teaches spoken Russian to English students. Mr Pet^rov t in vited the -J Wilsons i to come and have T dinner with him t 'next T Friday.
He 'said, “'Would you 'like to go to the -^cinema after dinner? They are showing² a T Russian -7 film “'Crime and T Punishment”³ at the Odeon.”⁴ It is based on Dostoyevski’s novel.
“It’s 'very T nice of -Jyou to Task us,” said Mrs Wilson. “We’d T love to come. John’s 'been T so Tbusy lately, I we haven’t gone out Tmuch. Thank you T very T much.”
(Next Friday)
At dinner I the Wilsons and Mr PetT rov t talked about their 'plans for the T summer. Then it was'time to leave for the T cinema.
The film was very interesting. The acting was Texcellent i and the colours were T beautiful. Mr Pet'rov and the 'Wilsons enTjoyed the film. “'Wasn’t Smoktu'novsky T marvellous?” > Mrs Wilson said when they 'came out of the T cinema.
“He Tcertainly was, 1 T wasn’t he?” Mr Wilson said. “His 'acting is T wonderful. You .J know⁵ I’ve just re Tread the -) novel,” he 'went on to Tsay⁶, “Dostоyevski J is my favourite 'Russian T writer.”
