Students’ delivery rates are displayed in Table 9. As can be seen in Table 9, there 
are striking differences across interpreting tasks and across students. Generally 
speaking, Table 9 demonstrates that average STU delivery rate is lower than the 
speaker’s (101.97 w/m vs. 103.66 w/m). However, if we take a closer look at the 
table, we see that this is not the case for each interpreting task. Out of the four 
interpreting tasks, one stands out. Indeed, the speaker’s delivery rate for IN03 
(108.14 w/m) is lower than the average STU delivery rate (109.48 w/m). We also 
see that, as Chernov says (2004), the students’ delivery rate does not 
proportionally increase with the speaker’s. IN03 delivery rate is lower than IN04 
delivery rate (108.14 w/m < 109.90 w/m) but STU average delivery rate is higher 
for IN03 than IN04 (109.48 w/m > 104.63 w/m). 
There are also marked differences across students. First, the output delivery rates 
are considered as slow because they are all lower than 130 w/m. Four students,

namely STU01 (109.77 w/m), STU02 (103.21 w/m), STU03 (106.32 w/m) and 
STU05 (116.17 w/m), have an average delivery rate which is markedly higher than 
the average IN delivery rate (101.97 w/m). Two other students, STU04 and STU08, 
systematically have a lower average delivery rate. It is also interesting to see that 
STU01’s and STU05’s delivery rates are higher than the average IN delivery rate 
for each interpreting task.
