PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS AND THEIR MEANING: IN THE EXAMPLE OF 
TRANSLATED NOVEL

Abstract: The article compares phraseological units and their featuresmin English 
and Uzbek, the similaarties and differences between them in the example of the translated 
work.

The positive quality changes in the social and cultural life of the Republic during the 
period of independence were also reflected in the teaching of foreign languages. Studying 
foreign languages in our republic made it possible for students to expand their knowledge, 
develop their culture and enrich their spiritual world. "In the period of integration of our 
country into the world community, our young people have independent thinking, high 
intellectual and spiritual potential, and mature into people who are not inferior to their peers 
in any field on a global scale." It is important to study our knowledge in the field of 
comparative typology of mother tongue and foreign languages, lexicology, phraseology, 
linguistic culture at a higher level in educational institutions.
Among them, the science of phraseology also developed. Phraseological units are 
the most important branch of language in the science of linguistics. French linguist P. Guiro 
gives the following concise definition of a phraseological unit: "A phrase consisting of several 
words forming a syntactic and lexicological unit." According to the definition, A.G. Nazaryan, 
"Phraseologism is a "separately formed unit" with full or partial semantic transformation. L.I. 
Rahmonova also calls phraseological units (phraseological units, phraseological turns) 
whole phrases, which are not created, but are repeated throughout the speech. V.P. Zhukov 
defines phraseology as "stable and repetitive V. M. Mokienko understands the 
phraseological unit as a language unit that is separately structured, composed of
