18. What kind of interactive teaching styles do you know?
There are given five interactive teaching styles that make a difference: 1. Brainstorming - various techniques. Interactive brainstorming is typically performed in group sessions. The process is useful for generating creative thoughts and ideas. Brainstorming helps students learn to pull together. Types of interactive brainstorming include: Structured and unstructured Reverse or negative thinking Nominal group relationships Online interaction such as chat, forums and email Team-idea mapping Group passing Individual brainstorming 2. Think, pair and share. Establish a problem or a question. Pair the students. Give each pair sufficient time to form a conclusion. Permit each participant to define the conclusion in his or her personal voice. You can also request that one student explain a concept while the other student evaluates what is being learned. Apply different variations of the process. 3. Buzz session. Participants come together in session groups that focus on a single topic. Within each group, every student contributes thoughts and ideas. Encourage discussion and collaboration among the students within each group. Everyone should learn from one another’s input and experiences. 4. Incident process. This teaching style involves a case study format, but the process is not so rigid as a full case study training session. The focus is on learning how to solve real problems that involve real people. Small groups of participants are provided details from actual incidents and then asked to develop a workable solution 19. How to understand and teach young learners better? Students at this level are just starting their academic careers. School may be intimidating for some of the students in your class so, in order to encourage everyone to participate, it is important to make your lessons relaxed and fun. Students will be learning very basic material but you can design creative lessons that get students moving around and speaking with one another. Young learners are generally very enthusiastic about songs, especially if they can sing along, and play active games. Teachers play an important role in helping them develop into lifelong learners. Foster a love of learning by creating lesson plans that appeal to them, suit their maturity level, and focus on what will help them excel in future English courses. Keep them motivated As kids get older and reach their pre-teen years, some ESL games and activities may not interest them as much as they did in the past. A little preparation goes a long way Never make the mistake of showing up for class with little or no ideas, and thinking that you’ll figure it out as you go along. Don’t let them get bored If children are bored they won’t pay attention, and they won’t learn. You don’t have to clown around all the time, either; they're in class to learn, not to be entertained by you. Teacher’s job is to make learning engaging and fun. Mix it up ESL classes may include singing, dancing, and jumping, as well as writing, reading, or listening. The best ESL lessons combine the right mix of teaching strategies. Being prepared to deal with parents Unlike teaching adult students, when you teach the little ones you have to interact with their parents as well. Gather an arsenal of materials When you teach children English it is essential to have a box of materials that can be adaptable to any game or activity. Remember it’s not all about the games Each game or activity you propose should target a specific learning goal or ESL element. It’s not about coming to class to play. ESL games are highly effective teaching strategies as long as you know how to fully utilize their potential. Teach in context Lessons should be planned in accordance with learning goals.
