Activity 8: Microteaching – Grade Level Textbook
The purpose of this microteaching session is to practice designing and teaching a grade-level textbook activity that includes giving clear instructions and asking students comprehension questions during and after the activity. You will receive feedback from your peers using the CoP Observation Rubric.
You will work in groups of 3.
Find peers that teach the same grade level.
First, you will choose an activity from a grade-level textbook.
Next, you will write instructions that you will give your students to complete the activity.
Then, you will write comprehension checking questions (CCQs) you will ask your students as they do the activity and after the activity has been completed.
Finally, you will microteach your activity and receive feedback from your peers using the CoP Observation Rubric and feedback questions.
What was one thing you thought was “well done” (no changes necessary)? Why?
What was one thing that “needs a little work”? Why?
What was one thing that “needs a lot of work”? Why?
Transition: How do you feel about asking ICQs and CCQs after this microteaching? This is a good time to ask questions.
Now let’s go to our Activity Tracker and reflect on how you will apply what you learned today when you start school in a couple of weeks.
