Activity 9: Thumbs up–Good, Bad, Ok Objectives
Divide Mentees into pairs.
Read a lesson objective and/or write it on the board.
Ask Mentees if the objective is clear, observable, and obtainable.
Mentees discuss the objective and decide if it is good, bad, or ok based on if it’s clear, observable, and obtainable.
If it is good, Mentees discuss the reason it’s good.
If it’s bad or ok, Mentees discuss why it isn’t good and rewrite it to make it better.
Say, 3-2-1, go.
Mentees give a thumbs up if they think an objective is good, thumbs down if they think it is bad, and a sideways thumb if they think it is ok.
Ask 1 or 2 pairs to share their answers.
Example objectives:
SWBAT talk about their family.
SWBAT learn about wild animals.
SWBAT understand types of habitats.
SWBAT write and perform a sports dialogue.
SWBAT know the differences between American and Uzbek cultures.
Transition: Now that you know how to write an objective, let’s start planning a lesson. Let’s start by looking at how we can match our objective to activities.
