Induction motor Induction motors work on the principle of rotating magnetic fields [1] where the sinusoidal input in the stator produces a rotating magnetic flux. The air gap flux can then be expressed as the following, where ๐ ๐ is the rotation speed for the flux in revolutions per minute, ๐ ๐ is the frequency of the electrical source, and ๐ is the number of magnetic poles. ๐ ๐ = 60๐ ๐ ๐ (2.1) The rotation of the flux relates to the mechanical rotation through slip, s as shown below, where ๐ ๐ is the rotation of the rotor.
