OUBARA
 
Asian Houbara is an iconic inhabitant of steppe and semi-desert in Central Asia and the Middle 
East. A highly terrestrial bird, capable of going long periods without taking flight, it is 
nonetheless a true long-distance migrant, with some individuals travelling more than 7,500 km 
over the course of a single year.

In total, five (5) bustards were recorded. The density of this species is 0.090 (0.081-0.1) birds 
(males)/km
2
(95% CI). The total area of suitable habitat within the Project site is 317km
2
. so an 
extrapolated total population is estimated as 58 breeding individuals. 
CHA found that
the quantitative population estimation in the WF area is below the proposed 
threshold for criticality. However, stakeholder engagement indicates that the wind farm area 
lies within both prime breeding ground as well as a migratory corridor. Given that the 
population extrapolation for such a secretive species has a high margin of possible error, that 
this species is considered as triggering criticality for the project.
