A total of ten (10) mammalian species were recorded
in the Dzhankeldy project area,
including 2 species listed in the Red Data Book of Uzbekistan and IUCN Red List: Brandt's
hedgehog (NT, UzRB/LC, IUCN), Marbled polecat (VU, UzRB/VU, IUCN), Caracal (CR, UzRB/LC,
IUCN), Sand cat (NT, UzRB/LC, IUCN) and Goitered gazelle (VU, UzRB/VU, IUCN).
Historical and stakeholder accounts confirm the presence of the Caracal (CR, UzRB/LC, IUCN),
Sand Cat (NT, UzRB/LC, IUCN) and Marbled Pole Cat (VU, UzRB/VU, IUCN) in the project area
(Zakhidov, 1971; Gristina 2016, 2019).
CHA for the Goitered Gazelle, listed as VU on the IUCN Red List and the Uzbek RDB, shows that
though this species has been established to occur in the
project area, it is not at abundances
high enough to trigger criticality. However, being a VU species, it is considered to be as an
important sensitive receptor and a Priority Biodiversity Feature as per the EBRD PR6 GN6 criteria.
