Child development 7 to 12 months
The seventh month
Physical development
• The baby begins
to move his limbs vigorously; he will kick and
push anything in front of him with his feet,
and he will roll over
from his stomach onto his back and vice versa.
• He tries to pull himself up into a standing position but is not
able to do it.
• He holds onto objects with both hands for a longer period.
• He becomes happier when playing and is able to hold more
than one toy at the same time.
• He is able to lift his upper body and may crawl backwards.
• When he is
placed in a sitting position, we see that he is holding
his head steady.
Social-‐emotional development
• The baby gets
upset if strangers pick him up; he now recognises
his mother, father and other family members around him. He
likes toys that make soft sounds.
Linguistic development
• The baby listens attentively to the
speech of the people around
him and he may begin to make some unique sounds of three
syllables such as “da-‐da-‐da” or “ba-‐ba-‐ba.”
