Using an Online Virtual Whiteboard

  • Everything you can do with a physical whiteboard can be done with a virtual whiteboard - and more! Exactly the same principles apply to virtual whiteboards and they should be utilised as extensively as possible by the teacher. The added benefit of the virtual whiteboard is that all the learners can mark it and write on it too from the comfort of their seats. This makes activities like games or interactive tasks not only possible, but fun and engaging!

    Explain the basic principles of good classroom management, including:

    a. Rapport

    b. TTT vs STT

    c. Seating & interaction

    d. Monitoring

    e. Instructions

    f. Boardwork

    Note: Your answer must cover all of the points mentioned.

    This is a longer question as there are several points to cover here. Ensure that you cover all points (a-f) in the question. You should break them down individually to make sure you cover them all comprehensively.

     

    Rapport: Firstly, you need to explain the principles of rapport in the classroom. What is rapport? How can a teacher build and improve rapport with their learners? Why is it important to have a good rapport with your class?

     

    TTT vs STT: Secondly, you need to think about TTT vs STT (teacher and student talk time). Can you think of some examples of each? Which one is more desirable in the classroom? Why?

     

    Seating & interaction: Next, you need to explain seating and interaction. What typical seating plans might be used in the classroom and how does this affect the interaction between the teacher and learners? Can this be applied online?

     

    Monitoring: For this part, you need to consider monitoring in the classroom. What is monitoring in the EFL classroom? When should a teacher monitor? How?
