Ann: I’m afraid I have to agree with Dan. There is a rush to 
publish, preferably in a prestigious journal and it is also 
important to be cited. But citation also has its issues ... impact 
factors are not reliable and can be manipulated. I strongly 
believe that the qualitative, not just the quantitative side of 
publications has to be assessed.
Moderator: So, we need to participate in the publishing game 
and we have to abide by its rules. We don’t just publish to 
keep our jobs, but to become contributing members of our 
academic community. We have to publish to accomplish: to 
create knowledge and to challenge assumptions.
