Abstract: English learning has become more crucial as the world and technology
have progressed. Teachers usually employ teacher-centered education, which results
in minimal student involvement. The purpose of this study is to look into the benefits
and drawbacks of incorporating social networking technologies into an ESL writing
classroom, as well as to describe how to arrange activities using social networking
services (SNSs).
Key words: social networking services, EFL students, writing classroom
integrating SNSs, blogs, writing skills
Technology currently matters a lot in the development of language learning
materials, both as a tool for creating them and as a platform for delivering them.
Despite the physical barrier, mobile devices and social media provide excellent
educational learning options to students for academic collaboration, access to course
information, and tutoring (2, p.17).
When Web 2.0 social media platforms such as YouTube, Wikipedia, Facebook
blogging, and chatting first appeared on the market, students rapidly became
enamored with them. Identifying what our students use and how they use social
media technologies is extremely vital for schools and faculty to integrate those tools
into teaching and learning activities in order to fully utilize this public resource (3,
p.21). Adoption and use of mobile devices and social media can give students with
a plethora of futuristic learning opportunities, including access to course information
and engagement with peers and professionals (1, p.2).
The study was conducted with EFL students at Almalyk branch of NUST MISiS
University by an online discussion board in order to identify the benefits and
drawbacks of integrating SNSs into a writing classroom. According to the findings,
incorporating social networking services can help students widen their knowledge,
