The expressive style is "tell assertive" and tends to display emotions. Individuals of the expressive behavioral type tend to make more statements. They speak faster, use more variety in their vocal tone, and they're frequently very animated in conversation. The expressive style tends to focus on issues with people, and they often use stories in making their points. They are often highly spontaneous and can generate high-energy and creative ideas for the practice. Follow-through, however, can be a challenge for these folks. Expressives like to “think out loud,” so they welcome group meetings in which the talk jumps from topic to topic. They like informal interaction and plenty of time for conversation and want us to be interested in them. Scoring high on both the assertiveness and responsiveness scales, Expressives tend to be persuasive, creative, and outgoing. Conversations with Expressives need to be focused so that details don’t get glossed over.
In all of styles given above person is low or high on assertiveness. All styles can be quite effective, but a more assertive person is more interested or knowledgeable than less assertive person. Let’s note HOW ASSERTIVE PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT THEMSELVES. People who normally use assertive behavior likely feel: Calm, direct, proud, honest, positive, satisfied, energetic, confident, in control, enthusiastic, respect for others, able to acknowledge feelings. These people feel that they're okay and you're okay too. No one will be completely true to one style. The average person will have most of the characteristics of one of these styles, but not all of them. Above all, we need to keep in mind that no behavior style is better or worse than any other; each has its strengths.
