Annotation. Each nation sees the world differently, and this 
view is refracted depending on the type of culture. The language of 
the people is a reliable source that can help in the study of national 
color. The experience, knowledge, information accumulated in the 
works of folk art are a reliable resource for studying the national 
and cultural flavor of the country. The purpose of this article is to 
determine the influence of the English mentality on the language 
and content of English folk tales. Tasks: consider the concept of

mentality; to study the main classifications of cultural types; to 
analyze the English folk tales and identify the manifestations of the 
national English mentality on their example. The object of the 
research is the national mentality of the English culture. Research 
methods: theoretical: study and analysis of scientific literature, 
English folk tales; practical: comparison, observation. Results and 
conclusions. After analyzing several English folk tales, it was 
concluded that the English folk tale is a reflection of the national 
traits of the English people, which were described in their works by 
V.V. Ovchinnikov and I.A. Sternin, as well as the cultural type, 
which was described by G. Hofstede, E. Hall, Strodbeck and 
Kluckhohn. After analyzing the material, a large number of vivid 
examples was found. This illustrates the influence of mentality on 
the syntactic, grammatical structure, on the lexical composition.
