Alth o u g h the territories c o m prised under N a g p u r were in clude d within the V i c a r ia te o f the Great Mogul, there is no trace o£ any m issio na ry ever h av in g set f oo t there till the b e g in n i n g o f the 19th century, Nagpur, K am p te e , A u r a n g a b a d and Ja ulna h were first visited by G oan priests f r o m P o o u a in 1814. The G oan priests retained ju r is d i c t io n till 1839 when the di s tr ic t fell to the ju r is d i c t io n o f the V i c a r A p o s t o l i c of Madras.
