Formative Assessment Initial Language Learner Profiles and Krashen’s Hypothesis Group: 8T Date:07.11.2022 Name Age First language L1 Identity Learning style Language proficiency Learning preference Sara 13 Tajik Tajik Visual learner Pre -intermediat e Explicit learning Nikos 13 Uzbek Uzbek Auditory learner Elementary Explicit learning I have selected two of my learners with the same age and level but different background knowledge, nation, home language. Description of the first learner: Her name is Sara. She is from Tajikistan. She is at the age of 13.She is 6 th grade at public school. She moved to Uzbekistan 3 years ago. She is very keen on learning new foreign languages. Her level is pre-intermediate now. She has been learning English since 2 years. She can comprehend basic personal and family topics, talk about occupations, different places and know some certain phrases and make simple sentences. She is attending an extra English course besides school. She has only 3 lessons a week at school. Additionally, she goes to an English course 3 days in a week. It means that she has 2 types of English teaching and learning time is a bit limited. She hear English different times of 6days and has a more chance to communicate with other peers. Every night she watches English cartoons to improve her English level. However sometimes she makes pauses and repetitions .It is one of his lack in speaking. Her strength in English is communication and weak point is grammar. Description of the second learner: His name is Nikos. He is from Uzbekistan. His nationality is Uzbek. He is 13 years old. He is an elementary level student. He has been learning English for a year. He is very interested in listening different kinds of English songs and never puts his headphones away. He is able to listen and understand the main ideas of the given topic by listening very carefully and attentively. There are 3 English lessons in a week at school. In English classes she can easily acquire given grammar rules and also he is good at grammar tests rather than communication exams. His English knowledge mostly depends on grammar rules. He is very careful when he makes a sentence. He is afraid of speaking English because he thinks he makes some grammar mistakes. When he speaks he makes so my pauses, repetitions, and speech corrections. We can see here her achievement in correct usage and easily acquiring grammar structures and rules however her weakness is just to fear speaking. It is informed that there are 5 input hypotheses. These are The Acquisition Hypothesis; The Natural Order Hypothesis; The Monitor Hypothesis; The Input Hypothesis; The Effective Filter Hypothesis. Krashen (1985) clearly defined each of these hypotheses, gave evidence to support it and provided with some fundamental principles. I have chosen 3 of them which help my learners to acquire the target language positively and made learning process comprehensible. Download 45.82 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
