8. MENTALLY PREPARE
“Regular business hours” can be especially difficult for
students that go straight
from college to Law School without ever having a “normal” job. Those that spend
time in the workforce, have an easier time of managing the workload.
Again, it’s all about consistency. People fall behind by not
working a little bit every
day. Eventually they fall behind to a point where they can’t catch up.
Mentally prepare yourself for working consistently. If you can do that, you’ll be in
good shape and better than most.

2. First Year Subjects Can Be Daunting Without A Proper Frame of Reference
Every Law School requires students to take certain core subjects:
Contracts
Torts (i.e. civil lawsuits like negligence or defamation)
Criminal Law
Property (real estate, personal property, and estates)
Constitutional law
Civil Procedure
If you have no idea what those subjects are
or how the legal system works, there are several
textbooks for undergraduate business law classes that offer a pretty good summary. Two
books to check out: Business Law by Mallor and Law for Business by Ashcroft. You can pick
up those books for less than $10 by buying a prior edition (you won’t
need the most current
version because you’re not taking the “business law” class).
