- Question 09 Were you approached by any NGOs to support your business
Question 08 Does your daily activities differ from day to day based on the weather? (See figure 2.10) This questiona was engineered to check on the Environmental factor that affect the SMEs.In Sri Lanka, Weather conditions are not that much varying because there is no winter in Sri Lanka and its mostly sunny for most of the parts of the country. But in certain months there will be heavy floods due to heavy rainfall and major roads including Highways also get covered in flood water, making transport a problem. This question was included in order to get an idea how many responders are affected by weather in their SME workflow. Figure 2.10 Response to Question 08 (Author Construction) 55.% of the responders have stated they are not affected by weather in their workflow while 44.3% have responded, they are affected. If a SME is worked on a building where it serves customers in-house, the affect is minimum but if the work flow includes labor work in the outside environment, the chance of disturbance is high. Severe weather can increase workplace energy use, making it difficult to maintain indoor temperatures, manage humidity, and filter air.Wind, rain, lightning, and flood waters can cause damage to structures, compromising 44 windows and doors and resulting in ceiling leaks.Damaged facilities have an impact on energy use and efficiency, in addition to the expenditures.Productivity diminishes when employees are swamped in and unable to get to work. When bad weather comes during working hours, it can induce worry and distraction, which can decrease productivity.Customers may be turned away due to inclement weather.Supply, shipping schedules, and the cost of goods are all affected by the weather. Question 09 Were you approached by any NGOs to support your business? (See figure 2.11) NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) are involved in the socioeconomic growth of SMEs.They are social welfare organizations that are privately owned and registered. They usually operate on the basis of grants, aids, or donations.NGOs work to alleviate poverty by raising awareness among rural women about the need of starting a small business in their own home in Sri Lanka.NGOs come in to play either while the Government organizations also help the SMEs or when the Government organizations fail to help the small and Micro Enterprises. Because micro firms are the businesses that receive the least attention, many NGOs focus their programming efforts on them. Through this question, the Author intends to find out, how many of the responders were approached by any sort of NGO, and how many have considered taking their help towards their business. The result was as follows. Figure 2.11 Response to Question 09 (Author Construction) 45 31.4% of the responses came as they were approached by the NGOs and they took the support and on the contrary, 22.9% have responded as although they were approached by the NGOs, they refused their help. And 25.7% have mentioned They were not approached by any NGO, but they would like the assistance if offered. And 31.4% have mentioned they were neither approached nor want the assistance of NGOs at all. Most People ignore the NGO help, due to lack of knowledge in how they can help in various situations to a prosporous future of a business.NGOs give Concelling on taxes, Management of day to work and on lot more, but most people see NGOs as a third party who is offering their help in exchange of some share of their business, which is completely false.
