Avoid even thinking about sex. This includes fantasizing. The mind should never be in an aroused
state. If you let yourself get aroused, and even if you don’t act on the arousal, it will come back to
haunt you. These consequences may come in the form of wet dreams or even stronger compulsions
later.
Quit thinking sexual thoughts as soon as you notice them.
As you succeed in doing this, your control
over your mind will only increase over time.
Don’t wear uncomfortable clothes
Underwear should not be too loose or too tight; it must fit properly and provide support.
Pants
should also not be too tight. Avoid jeans, or any pants for that matter,
which are too tight in the
crotch area or are uncomfortable when you sit down. Noticing small things like this might be able to
make a difference in your recovery.
Checking penis to see if it “works”
It will, just don’t test it out. It is not a use-it-or-lose-it body part, in fact, it is the other way around. If
you are in the camp currently aroused only by porn and nothing else, just give it time. Don’t worry,
just trust the process. Normal arousal will come back, and this applies on both the
physical and
mental levels.
Avoid edging
Watching porn but delaying the release to maximize the amount of stimulation you get is probably
the absolute worst thing you can do for your brain. It inevitably leads to a failed resistance and a full-
blown relapse (possibly multiple), prolonging the destructive process and worsening the state of the
addiction. Needless to say, it is extremely unhealthy mentally, causing
nothing but misery and
frustration in the time that follows.
Additionally, edging makes porn much harder to quit, as the variable rewards schedule of receiving a
mental rush following watching porn causes the brain to keep seeking it out longer.
