Don’t take long warm showers There is something strange about warm water for its effect on the body – it is somewhat comfortable in a sexual way and the body craves it even though it is unnecessary. Avoid taking long baths or showers in warm water. Long warm showers also wash away your energy and can leave you feeling very tired. It is not required to take icy showers, but the colder the water, the greater effect it will have on willpower, discipline, and your overall state of mind. Cold showers build discipline and increase testosterone. They reject the power of addiction over the body by dismissing the need to seek out comfort, instead putting the body through an uncomfortable experience. This is powerful training to weaken the mind’s cravings. You are rewarded with a very satisfying feeling after the shower. Ice cold showers have the greatest effect. You will come out with a totally different mindset compared to when you came in. If you are finding yourself close to relapse, take an ice-cold shower until you forget any sexual thoughts. While you don’t have to use your shower time as training for getting clean from porn addiction, at the very least, avoid priming sexual thoughts by avoiding hot water. Keep baths to a minimum length and do not make them excessively comfortable. Avoid stressful and unhappy situations It can be difficult to think clearly in early stages of recovery. The lack of mental clarity is exacerbated by long or frustrating tasks, which can also drastically increase the probability of a relapse. Try to be aware of your emotions instead of dismissing any signs of negative emotions, as your goal is to keep emotions at a moderate level. Take frequent brakes throughout the day instead of mindlessly plowing through everything. If you get overwhelmed and do not correct for it, you may be more likely to relapse once the stress is removed. If these unhappy situations occur on a consistent basis, the negative emotions that ensue may be a sign of a lack of meaning or purpose in life. For example, always doing mundane or tedious work may cause this. The emotions signal that you might want to consider doing something differently. While it is impossible to remove all negative situations in life, you will benefit from increased planning and clarity around your day. Act deliberately and be in the moment. Prepare and plan well, which will help take away surprises. These skills come hand in hand with building mental fortitude, being skilled at mental visualization, and being able to say no to things.
