INTRODUCTION
Today the field of medicine and biology is rapidly evolving. There is a great deal of research in physiology and neurobiology, as there are still many questions about the structure and function of the human brain, as well as some other aspects of human behavior about which very little is known. One such aspect includes the human nature of laughter. This topic is very relevant today among neuroscientists, since it is still not known exactly why humans laugh, and how the impulse of laughter is born in them. However, the same desire to observe the developments in this branch of science have also ordinary people who have no special knowledge in the field of neurobiology. Popular science articles that explain the scientific advances in this field in simplified and accessible language help them with this. Because of the large increase in research, the number of papers is also increasing, and as a consequence, the number of required translations is also increasing. The choice of text for the term paper is based precisely on the popularity of this topic among the general reader.
The object of the study are two texts belonging to the scientific style, specifically, to the popular science sub-style. The genre of these texts is defined as an article.
The subject of this study is to determine the features of translation of popular science text of the articles "The funny business of laughter". [19] and "LaughLab. The scientific search of the world's funniest joke. Final report". [20].
The aim of this term paper is to substantiate the use of adequate and partially literal translation strategies in the translation of the texts "The funny business of laughter" and "LaughLab. The scientific search of the world's funniest joke. Final report".
Objectives of the work:
1. Give a general characteristic of the source text of the articles;
2. To identify features and analyze lexical, grammatical, stylistic and pragmatic characteristics of the text;
3. To analyze the techniques used in translation (transformation, calibration, transliteration).
The following research methods were used in the course work: analysis (dividing the source text of the articles into separate components with their subsequent study), synthesis (combining the properties of the studied texts into one component), generalization (obtaining general conclusions about the properties and features of texts belonging to the popular science sub-style), classification (distribution of used translation transformations into categories) and systematization (uniting translation transformations based on common features).
The methodological basis of the research is based on the works of such researchers as V. N. Komissarov "Modern Translation Studies", R. K. Minyar-Beloruchev, as well as I. S. Alekseev "Introduction to Translation Studies" and other major researchers working in the field of translation studies. In addition, different types of dictionaries were used in the work.
It is worth noting that the theoretical and practical significance of the work lies in the generalization of approaches to the analysis of the translation of popular science texts.
