improvement is expected in favor of the development of regional
cooperation and integration in the short and medium term.
In this regard, one of the main conditions for the
development of regional cooperation in Central Asia is the need
to revise the methodology for determining national interests, first
of all, the definition of national interests in the context of
common regional ones. By the recognition of the inseparability
and the organic interrelation of national and regional interests, the
countries of the region can achieve fundamental success not only
in matters of cooperation and integration, but also in realizing
their national interests.
Today, such areas as economy and security remain as
factors, on the basis of which it is possible to achieve real
progress in the advancement of regional cooperation and
integration. In connection with this, today it is necessary to
abstain from unnecessary politicization of the issue of integration
and concentrate efforts specifically on interaction in the field of
economy and security. It is especially true with the changing
nature of the geopolitical processes in the world and the problems
of Afghanistan.
Deep economic reforms, the prevalence of economic
expedience over the ideological, the attraction of substantial
foreign investment, the implementation of trans-regional
infrastructure projects, the deepening the interrelationship of
national economies with the world economy and others can serve
not only as a real impulse for the economic development of
Central Asia, but also as a factor of regional integration.
There is hope that a new generation of political and national
elites of Central Asia will proceed from more pragmatic and
realistic considerations and make a historic choice in favor of
integration. This will be facilitated not only by the vital interests
of the region, but also by the historical pattern of the development
of the modern world where integration processes are perceived as
the only true path for human development.
